Although we do not have a Parental Teachers Association we have a very full programme of activities of and courses for parents and their children.
The parent's hut is at the back of the school playground and there are courses happening there 5 mornings and 4 afternoons a week. These include parenting courses, esol classes, curriculum workshops, healthy living courses and coffee mornings.
We have a Community Cohesion Coordinator, Alison Jones, who organises the parenting courses, family learning, inter-faith discussion groups and volunteering programs. Alison is a trained counsellor and is also available for parents who would like to support with their children's behaviour.
Our parent support worker, Rumana Begum, co-ordinates the healthy living programme, coffee mornings, early words programme and is also available to help parents fill in forms, go to meetings and support parents who are facing challenges in their lives.

Volunteering in School and Childcare Placements
Many parents ask if they can help on school trips or in class. All parents who want to volunteer need to have a current DBS and have completed the four week volunteers course.
Volunteering at Marion Richardson School course
This Course is run for four afternoons in the summer term and looks at the role of the volunteer, school policies, keeping children safe and how the school is organised. For those who complete the course successfully, the school will apply for a DBS and will offer the volunteer regular opportunities to volunteer in the next academic year.
Child Care Placements
We are regularly asked if parents can do childcare placements with us. If you are interested in doing a placement please make an appointment with Miss Alison who coordinates placements at the school.
Adult Learning at Marion Richardson School
We encourage parents who want to learn English or improve their ICT skills to attend our adult learning classes. Children are proud of their parents when they see them learning new skills.

Entry 3/ Functional skills 1: This class meets for two afternoons a week and leads to qualifications.

We encourage all our families to live healthy lifestyles. We offer the following courses:
Healthy Cook and Eat sessions-learning healthy recipes from different cultures
Sit Fit –an exercise class
Fathers Football-a weekly football training session at Stepney Green Astro turf, with regular matches against other schools.
In conjunction with the Youths sports trust we also offer parents the opportunity to learn to cycle, go rock climbing and learn to swim. In the summer term we are developing a regular programme of parent and children keep active sessions.
Each year the parents at Marion Richardson raise money for local, national, and international charities.
We organise four charity lunches a year when parents donate home cooked food and sell it to staff for their lunch. Each year we raise money for McMillan cancer research, Growth homeless shelter, Comic/ Sports relief and a third world charity (normally responding to disaster appeals).
Parents from the school also volunteer at the local night shelter for homeless people, cook the evening meal eights times a year. Parents also volunteer as interpreters when the night shelter need support with guests who have limited English.
